SAMUEL SHALLENBERGER
Samuel
Shallenberger was born September 22, 1834; died at his late residence
in Perry township, September 8, 1897, aged 62 years, 11 months and 16
days. The deceased was a soldier in the war for the Union, and was
badly wounded in one of the battles in the Peninsula under McClellan.
About four years ago he had a stroke of paralysis from which he never
fully recovered. The immediate cause of his death was heart failure. He
leaves a wife and a large family of children.
His body was
buried on Friday, September 10, in Jerusalem cemetery, services being
conducted by the pastor, Rev. D. B. Lady, D.D. The text for the funeral
sermon, selected by the family was 2 Tim. 4:7: “I have fought a good fight.”
